Licensure
The Athletic Training License Application is available on the SC Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation website. All South Carolina athletic trainers must apply for a license to practice, even if currently certified through DHEC. You have from May 3 to July 19, 2024 to complete your licensure application. Those whose DHEC certification expires prior to July 19, 2024 must apply prior to their expiration date. Licenses will not be issued until the Athletic Training Regulations become effective on or about May 24, 2024.
For individuals with a current athletic trainer certification from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) that will expire between May 3, 2024, and May 23, 2024, LLR and DHEC have jointly agreed to extend the expiration dates for those individuals to May 24, 2024, as long as the following conditions are met: 1) the individual must have a current certification with the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer, and 2) the individual must have an application for licensure as an athletic trainer on file with the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners. Please access a letter for your employer here.
