SC HS ATs: Time to Update ATLAS Data
SC HS ATs: Time to Update ATLAS Data
The ATLAS project is a collaborative effort between KSI/NATA to maintain a national database of high schools in the US who have an AT(s) and info about the services the AT(s) provides. The information is critical for moving AT forward at the secondary school level.
SC HS ATs should update information regarding AT services at their school in the ATLAS database at least every other year, and anytime personnel changes at the school using the link below . Updates for 2025-2026 school year can be made August 1 2025-June 1, 2026. Only one response is needed per school.
Feel free to share the link to any SC HS AT whose school has not updated their school’s information recently.

Licenses will not be issued until the Athletic Training Regulations become effective on or about May 24, 2024.
For those athletic trainers whose DHEC certification is expiring prior to May 24, DHEC and LLR have agreed to extend the expiration dates until licenses can be issued. LLR is in the process of getting an official letter posted on the Board of Medical Examiners webpage for ATs to produce to their employer.

All SC ATs Must Apply for SC License through LLR
Dear South Carolina Athletic Trainer,
On June 19, 2023, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster signed S.397 into law, licensing athletic trainers and moving regulatory oversight to the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR). This bill also gave LLR the ability to promulgate the regulations before fully licensing athletic trainers. We anticipate the regulations going into effect on or about May 24, 2024, which will include the same fee structure for initial applications and renewals that ATs paid at DHEC.
With the move to licensure and LLR, all athletic trainers in the state of South Carolina will have to apply for a license, even if currently certified through DHEC. This application will include a $50 initial application fee for all applications. LLR is working on the online application process so all SC athletic trainers can begin applying before the regulation approval date, with a hopeful website launch date of May 3, 2024. Any athletic trainer due to recertify after May 3, 2024 does not need to recertify through DHEC.
Once the application is available on LLR’s website, we will share additional information to guide ATs through the process. We understand the process is new for all athletic trainers in the state and hope to make the transition as seamless as possible. For any questions or concerns, please reach out to Amy Fraley, Kevin Ennis, or Zachery Richards. Contact information is below.
