The SCATA26 Program Committee is soliciting proposals for presentations at the 2026 SCATA Annual Symposium, July 16-17th, 2026 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The educational program is designed to share evidence-based best practices with athletic trainers in the state of South Carolina and provide continuing education units to meet LLR and BOC requirements. The program is developed by invitation and review of proposal submissions. 

Proposal submissions from SCATA members and nonmembers are welcome. Be sure to review the guidelines for each program format prior to submission.

Historical Trivia

Question: Where and when was the first National Certification Examination administered for Athletic Trainers in the United States? 

 Answer: Waco, Texas in August 1970.

We would like to introduce our new SCATA BEACON- ACCESS student member, Bernabe Juarez from Charleston Southern!

Get Involved with SCATA BEACON

We are currently looking for SCATA members who are interested in becoming involved within the following committees:

  • Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee (EDAC)- Advocating for environments that cultivate and foster inclusivity for athletic trainers and athletic training students, specifically within the state of South Carolina. Diversity can be expressed in many ways, and actively engaging in the communities we serve can improve and expand the care we provide. 

 

  • ACCESS- Working to create inclusive and accessible environments for members and patients with disabilities by identifying best practices and providing training and awareness to promote equal usability for all members

 

  • LGBTQ+- Supporting LGBTQ+ visibility and community in athletic training spaces for members, students, and patients via educational resources and advocation within South Carolina Committee involvement offers an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the state, contribute to meaningful initiatives, and help shape a professional community where all athletic trainers can thrive.

MAATA News

The Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers’ Association (MAATA) has formed a Council on Practice Advancement (COPA) Task Force to evaluate the need for a COPA committee within our district. The Task Force has also been asked to determine whether a COPA committee could assist in improving communication between the district and the athletic trainers in COPA settings, as well as facilitate additional continuing education opportunities for athletic trainers.

NATA Secondary School Mental Health Preparedness

Registration open, early bird pricing available!
This self-paced microcredential is designed to equip secondary school athletic trainers with essential knowledge and practical strategies to recognize, respond to and plan for mental health challenges among student-athletes. Through a combination of videos, research articles, discussions, and assessments, participants will gain a deeper understanding of athlete mental health and develop actionable skills to support holistic care.
BOC Renewal Update
Effective this period, the BOC is shifting its renewal deadline, giving Athletic Trainers (ATs) more time to complete their renewal requirements. BOC deadline for the current renewal period will be Monday, February 2, 2026.
The BOC is excited to announce an expansion of options available to Athletic Trainers (ATs) to complete their renewal requirements. Starting in 2026, the BOC will offer two renewal path options.
